hISTORY

                 Information regarding Mikao Usui came from the West (Hawaii) via Mrs. Takata in the 1940’s. The origins were never written down by Sensei (teacher) Usui.. She was trained by Dr. Hayashi, one of Usui’s students. Her teachings about the origins have been embellished for the Christian Westerners. She nevertheless brought us this gift that we enjoy today.

                 Many Reiki resources have found that Mikao Usui lived and studied in Japan. In all likelihood he may have been sent to a Buddhist Monastery to study at a very early age. His life was spent enmeshed in meditation and prayer. He received his Satori  (enlightenment) or his attunement, while fasting and in meditation at a monastery on Mt. Kurama in Kyoto, Japan. He developed a healing method that was simple to do and did not drain energy from the healer.

                 Usui practiced on himself, his family and anyone that he thought might benefit from his technique. He became known after a devastating earthquake hit Japan in 1923. Many thousands were killed and injured. Usui took Reiki and used it’s healing and comforting powers. As his healing skills became popular, he trained to be Reiki healers and teachers. Usui Sensei taught principles for living and Reiki as a way of life.

Reiki methods have evolved and continues to evolve as time goes on. But, the energy remains unchanged.

No matter the origin, Reiki energy undoubtedly is a source that is available to anyone. One need only to experience it to understand it’s healing properties.
